Why I'm standing
I want to give back to the city that has given me so much. I came from Ethiopia 14 years ago and worked in low-paid jobs to support my family while studying at Victoria University where I gained a master's degree in international relations. Now I run a small business with my wife and raise my children in this beautiful city.
About me
I am a community organiser. I am a chair of the African community council that is based in Newtown where I helped organise covid19 vaccination events and helped set up Aman Community Center.
My priorities
- Housing – we need to build more houses because we have a housing crisis in Wellington.
- Public transport – to address climate change and congestion we need to change the way travel.
- Infrastructure – we have underinvested in our infrastructure for decades and we are paying the price.
