Wellington City Council

Takapū/Northern General Ward
The Wellington City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Three councillors will be elected from the Takapū/Northern ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wellington City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I want to make a better future for all our kids, including mine. Covid is changing the way we live and the climate won't wait for a more convenient time. We must rise to these challenges with creative and practical ways to redesign our city and our neighbourhoods. Good infrastructure is the foundation for thriving communities. We need to look after the assets we've got and make responsible, climate-friendly investments that support growth.

About me

My skills in accounting and governance are needed in council more than ever. I asked the questions about depreciation that revealed council was not spending enough to replace aging pipes. I co-wrote the Mayoral Taskforce on Three Waters report. I have a PhD in accounting and entrepreneurship. I worked at the Treasury and taught at Victoria and Massey. I'm a member of the Institute of Directors and a certified Resource Management Act commissioner.

My priorities
  1. Invest in low carbon transport options to give people appealing alternatives to their car.
  2. Develop climate adaptation plans for council assets and vulnerable communities.
  3. Spend your rates dollars carefully, with quality analysis and close monitoring of project delivery.
