The Western Bay of Plenty District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Kaimai ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support the creation of new active reserves and recreational facilities as necessary for the growing population in the district.

    Support extension of the excellent cycle trail network.

  • Maintain and further develop (where there is a need) good sporting facilities for all ages.

    Work with local residents to ensure the maintenance and development of community halls, which are the heart of many communities.

    Monitor proactively, with the Police and community, the number of liquor outlets to minimise alcohol abuse.

  • Work with the Ministry of Education to create Action Centre, Pool, Sports Field at Omokoroa College to maximise community benefit from limited space locally.

    Ensure future facilities are multi-purpose for multiple codes, eg 5- or 7-a-side football, hockey, basketball, and tennis on one surface.

    Grant fund groups, eg Te Puna Quarry Park, Omokoroa Public Art, and consult with Pirirakau about public sculptures of cultural significance.
