Why I'm standing

I am concerned that local government is becoming less democratic, less reflective of ratepayers' and residents' wishes, and more centrally controlled. I don't accept that our rates should remain among the highest in the country largely due to overly ambitious asset growth plans. Our district is my chosen place to live in my post-career years but it has the potential to become less and less affordable if projected spending is not reined in.

About me

I listen well and consider all the facts before reaching conclusions. I respect and engage with varying opinions and support the collective viewpoint before my own. My track record is one of corporate, self-employed and non-profit leadership success. I worked in the manufacturing and utilities industries (national and local levels), and owned retail and service businesses. I am solution and results focused. I have lived and participated in numerous communities in New Zealand and Canada.

My priorities
  1. Enhance fiscal responsibility, including rates restraint, to ensure ongoing affordability.
  2. Retain local ownership and control of assets, eg Three Waters, to honour owners' and residents' wishes.
  3. Resolve the Katikati through traffic abomination, to facilitate real enhancement of the town centre.
