Mayor of Western Bay of Plenty

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Western Bay of Plenty District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I seek a change in the council's direction to curb high spending, high debt and extremely high rates. We need more open government and open consultation with our communities. We need to enhance our strong communities, our local economy and build more resilience into our environment.

About me

My career has been built around entrepreneurship and change management. I've started small businesses, worked on major change projects in the media/corporate world and am now back running my own business. I specialise in developing positive, high-performing teams – on a budget.

My priorities
  1. Lower rates through a wind back in the council's big spending, high debt plans.
  2. Open government through an end to secret meetings; accessible information for residents; open consultation.
  3. If Three Waters can't be stopped, ensure council does not keep rates high alongside new water charges.
