The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I am seeking election to Mayor and Kaimai councillor to enable my contribution to issues in our area. Planning and strategy, procurement and service delivery are the key pillars of my campaign. I bring common sense, intellect and determination. Tensions between central and local government minimise the voice and energy of many. We can change that, incentives and capabilities of the system – regional development, lift productivity to tackle the issues communities face.

About me

I am local as local gets in the Western Bay of Plenty. We are original descendants and have lived in Whakamarama for over 130 years. I am skilled in community led development, and understand local and central government institutions from my work as a research and evaluation consultant to various sectors. I am focuses on effective human centred process that support outcomes. I would love to represent and fold that expertise in the actions and outcomes of Western Bay of Plenty.

My priorities
  1. Change leadership across all layers of Western Bay of Plenty.
  2. Community led decision making and leadership – to steward and shape a process that is meaningful.
  3. Connection, shaping and sharing community focus and connection in all work streams of Western Bay of Plenty council.
