  • Whakatāne has limited community events and venues host large events. Council organising of events is good but can always be better.

Sporting facilities are shocking - a manager upgrade needs to take place asap, I'd love to see us host an All Blacks international one day.

More needs to be done for our youth centre, like motions in Rotorua, somewhere we can host birthdays that has Whakatāne pride attached.

  • Encourage and celebrate community events.

Use the Community Board Discretionary Fund to support improvements in sporting and public facilities.

  • Support the council to continue to plan events and activities to generate tourism and well-being.

Place more shade sails in public spaces, and barbecues for recreation in public reserves.

Upgrade the War Memorial Hall to a more modern facility.

  • Promote active, healthy and safe community.

Encourage active transport modes, eg walking and cycling.

Encourage creativity. Support the arts and cultural diversity.

  • Celebrate the depth and quality of our talented local artists and support the continued growth of a vibrant and diverse arts programme.

Communicate the needs of the Whakatāne-Ōhope community in regards to the provision and maintenance of public facilities.

Support a harm reduction approach to liquor licensing and gambling policy.
