Mayor of Whangārei

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Whangarei District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I am standing for Mayor to encourage others to be involved in their local elections, provide another option to place your vote (being one of the youngest in history, Māori and living in a low socio economic area). I am standing to create a strong sense of community and grow a people focused, community centric council and work towards building a legacy we can all be proud of.

About me

I am honest and real. I don't have any personal agenda or gain from being mayor. All I want to do is my part to help make a better, happier, safer life for the Whangārei community and the future generation. I have over six years of local, national and global governance experience whilst also running Tūāpapa, a social enterprise aimed at creating positive systemic change throughout New Zealand.

My priorities
  1. Create a cohesive council through team building sessions and governance training.
  2. Open opportunities for the community to engage authentically on their issues and solutions.
  3. Invest in community projects and spaces that have a positive social outcome for everyone.
