Mayor of Whangārei

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Whangarei District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Whangārei is my home, I believe in democracy, and protecting the well-being of our district. With civil engineering, Resource Management Act and governance knowledge, along with running a successful local IT business for over 22 years and being on Council for nine years under two different mayors, I feel I have the skills and ability to bring Whangārei together and deal with the future issues that we all face.

About me

I started in Council in 2007 under one mayor, had a six year break and then completed another six years under another mayor as one of four Okara Ward councillors. I have lived in Whangārei all my life, and I believe in democracy and making sure that the Whangārei residents get the best services. I am customer and community focused, with running a success IT business and involved in several community organisations.

My priorities
  1. Keep the Three Waters locally managed by the Whangārei District Council and owned by the residents of Whangārei.
  2. Make sure that all of the residents are heard by encouraging better communication skills.
  3. Make Whangārei accessible to all and encourage business growth and development.
