Whangaparāoa electorate

Whangaparāoa covers the Whangaparāoa Peninsula as well as Orewa, Red Beach and Stanmore Bay. The seat is currently held by National's Mark Mitchell, who won comfortably with a margin of 7,823. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Whangaparāoa – 40% to National's 37%. The electorate was created in the 2019/2020 electorate redistribution as population growth required the Rodney electorate – a safe National seat – to be split. The northern section of the Rodney electorate was incorporated in the Kaipara ki Mahurangi electorate, with the rest becoming Whangaparāoa.

Why I'm standing

Where to begin, I am running because I believe my community deserves a strong, active, engaged representative. I am running because I am so proud of the way Labour has always cared for the everyday, hardworking person. I am running because young people will carry the impact of decisions made in parliament now for our lifetimes and should have more representation in the process. I am running because I care about the future.

About me

I am someone who takes action when they see an issue and who stands up for what they believe in. From co-founding the Rainbow Alliance group at school, making digital resources about voting for young people, organising a community discussion on co-governance and establishing an environmental restoration project, I understand that there are so many avenues to make positive change in our communities and I also understand that politics is one of the most impactful.

My priorities
  1. Advocate for long-term, strategic, and just climate resilience planning for all Whangaparāoa.
  2. Improve and continue to push for affordable and accessible public transport options.
  3. Ensure that our schools, teachers, students, and school staff are supported and valued.
