Why I'm standing

I cannot change the world, but I can change the world around me. I strongly feel the need to stand up and represent my community. Our environment is under increased pressure from climate change and extreme weather events; this is not just putting pressure on our natural world, but also economically and socially. The cost of clean-up from climate events is expected to rise and environmental management is vital to minimise this.

About me

I am born and raised in Rotorua and have always worked in and around the natural environment. Having served the past nine years on the Rotorua Lakes Community Board (six as deputy chair) and having key roles representing Rotorua Lakes Council on Te Maru o Kaituna River Authority and Kaituna Catchment Control Scheme, working alongside regional council, I have a clear understanding of the way regional council works and the processes to make change.

My priorities
  1. Action climate change mitigation projects and minimise effects of extreme weather.
  2. Repair long-term the diversion wall and weir on Lake Rotoiti to improve water quality.
  3. Protect against flooding for rivers and streams that affect both rural and urban communities.
Current role
