Why I'm standing

I know our region, its challenges and its opportunities well from 20 years leading the Gisborne Herald newsroom and on the Chamber of Commerce board. I directed the Herald's reporting on the council and also had plenty to say about the council in editorials. I now want to apply my knowledge and experiences to supporting the good work and challenging the not-so-good from the inside.

About me

I have a long track record of commitment to this region and its people, and have broad governance experience. My focus areas have been community development and sustainable economic growth, through my roles at the Gisborne Herald and Chamber of Commerce, and responding to the scourge of family violence. I was chair of Tauawhi Charitable Trust from 2015-2025. I am well connected in the community, am a good listener, and offer culturally grounded leadership.

My priorities
  1. Engage genuinely and collaborate more to support strong communities and real change.
  2. Assert more direction over operations in governance and deliver value for every rates dollar.
  3. Help Gisborne District Council be more responsive, communicative and transparent.
