The Greater Wellington Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). three councillors will be elected from the Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai/Lower Hutt constituency. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Implement project to eliminate goats, pigs and deer from Wainuiomata water collection area to ensure clean water, healthy forest and lower ongoing cost.

    Raise awareness of value of reporting pollution events and improve responsiveness of council clean-up, compliance and enforcement.

  • Establish air quality monitoring system and manage flood control by building upstream water catchment facilities.

    Establish zero waste GWRC.

    Promote predator free Wellington region and scientific research to find better replacement for 1080 with a more humane approach for pest control.

  • Bring expertise in waste reduction and minimisation to council to look at all programmes and find scope for positive change.

    Help create Wainui Puketahā Sanctuary, which is 15 times the size of Zealandia and brings 20 jobs plus 40 in construction, and find private donors to pay for the fence.

    Integrate the environment in every council decision to make things better for everyone and enhance our unique biodiversity.

  • Establish a business case for the benefits of free public transport for environmental and road construction reduction purposes.

    Identify roadways where maximum capacity has been reached and establish strategies to reduce single-occupant car use.

    Investigate ways to make recycling efforts easier to utilise by the general public and expand what can be recycled locally.

  • Focus on basics including street cleaning, graffiti removal, mowing and care of parks and open spaces.

    Invest in wastewater infrastructure so sewerage does not pollute local waterways, harbours or beaches.

    Oppose any plan to reduce bin collection frequency and ensure residents receive reliable services they already pay for.
