Why I'm standing

Hawkes Bay Regional Council for let the community down before, during and after Cyclone Gabrielle. The 2019 climate emergency declaration was as useless as the effort they put in to prepare us for extreme weather events. Maintenance was non-existent and evacuation happened after the event, if at all. Many of our flood affected people tell me they aren't victims of nature, they are victims of the HBRC flawed recovery process.

About me

I have advocated for the flood-affected region since the cyclone and witnessed flaws in the council-led recovery process. As a business trainer and mentor, career focused on analysing company flaws, opportunities and making tough calls for change. Emphasise the need to consider unintended consequences in all council decision-making.

My priorities
  1. Reverse the rate take from capital value to land value to stop a poorly timed and unnecessary wealth tax.
  2. Conduct an internal review of decisions made by the chief executive for the flawed cyclone recovery category process.
  3. Audit costs versus efficiencies for mitigation decisions to ensure safety rather than ticking boxes.
