Masterton District Council

Masterton/Whakaoriori General Ward
The Masterton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. four councillors will be elected from the Masterton/Whakaoriori ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

I'm standing for council to bring respect and accountability back to how ratepayers' money is spent. I want to build a Masterton where people want to visit, stay and invest in their futures – by working smarter, not spending more.

About me

I'm president of Masterton Ratepayers and Residents Assn, board secretary Age Concern Wairarapa, and I come with a proven record in local governance, advocacy and volunteer work for our community. I've fought to protect our heritage, challenged waste, and stood for common sense and fairness. I bring 40 years of real world leadership from government, including the military. I'm a proud Wairarapa College old girl, and hands on Nana. I'm not afraid of hard work.

My priorities
  1. Fix core infrastructure first including pipes, potholes, parks, rubbish and public amenities.
  2. Get excessive rate hikes under control and end wasteful spending.
  3. Demand transparency and value for money. No more closed workshops or backroom deals.
