Nelson City Council

Nelson City At Large
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the three councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city.) This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I'm standing with a vision of Nelson Whakatū as a world leading sustainable city that we are all proud to call home. We have a great base to work from, and now need to take the next steps in terms of clean transport, healthy nature, a vibrant city and resilience to hazards.

About me

As a geologist, I understand the environmental challenges we face and the changes needed, and as a business owner, father, and eighth-generation Nelsonian I understand the needs and aspirations of the community. I am transparent and respectful of our community, and embrace positive change. During this term on council I have worked hard and developed good relationships with staff, colleagues and the community.

My priorities
  1. Provide safe and affordable transport choices for people of all ages.
  2. Ensure responsible land use practices on steep slopes to protect the environment and infrastructure.
  3. Enable smart intensification to restore vibrancy to the city centre.
