Thames General Ward
The Thames-Coromandel District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). one councillor will be elected from the Thames ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Ensure policies support affordable housing, including rentals, so communities can live, work and thrive here.

    Improve housing choices, affordability and availability, ensuring building consents and land zoning are well managed for future growth.

  • See whether some higher-density low-rise housing may be suitable for some residents who are struggling to find and afford housing.

    Establish a task force with TCDC and other agencies and groups to tackle the issue of vulnerable street folk in Thames.

    Continue work on the Thames spatial plan to enable housing development in the wider Thames area.

  • Advocate for community safety initiatives such as under-verandah lighting and the community patrol to make towns safer.

    Encourage communal activity in civic spaces through activation and promotion.

    Ensure the proposed district-wide spatial planning is well communicated and that communities take part and feel heard during the process.
