Thames General Ward
The Thames-Coromandel District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). one councillor will be elected from the Thames ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Actively promote council facilities to expand user base and therefore revenue.

    Bring household battery recycling away from only the resource recovery centre and into other council facilities to make it easier.

    Complete water meter rollout across all service areas for equitable service and charging.

  • Ensure council effectively manages its services and key assets, including water, waste, coastal protection, roads, parks and community spaces.

    Ensure rubbish and recycling services are efficient and cost effective for communities, following a waste reduction model.

    Ensure streetscapes, public spaces and parks are clean, inviting and safe, reflecting natural and historical landscapes.

  • Encourage the use of an electric rubbish truck and an organic waste service. Have a target to reduce waste to landfill by 50%.

    Assist the Seagull and other centres to reduce the amount of waste and increase reuse and recycling.

    Advocate for the community to ensure that the Local Waters Done Well reforms deliver positive outcomes for the whole TCDC area.
