Timaru Ward
The Timaru District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). six councillors will be elected from the Timaru ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Work with communities, farmers and industry to cut nutrient run-off and improve the health of rivers and aquifers.

  • Continue to advocate for waste minimisation programmes to reduce cost and plastic waste.

    Protect the quality of the environment and increase the biodiversity of the district.

  • Maintain excellent local waste management and ensure appropriate future disposal initiatives.

    Maintain great water quality and create a water policy under the council umbrella rather than a separate entity.

    Reclaim land at Washdyke, having been part of that initiative in Timaru.
