Mayor of Upper Hutt

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. I believe that Upper Hutt can be a place where all of us thrive, because our environment is protected, our economy is vibrant, our community is heard, our leadership is engaged, and people are safe, healthy and connected.

About me

My leadership approach is empowering, and based on collaboration and active listening. I believe in fairness, transparency and representing the best interests of our community. As mayor I will support innovative ways of working in partnership with the community and region, and I will ensure Council and councillors are accessible to, and engage with, residents. I have proven governance and business skills and I care about you and our city.

My priorities
  1. Build the team of elected members in such a way as to ensure continual engagement with the community.
  2. Ensure there is a communications plan which reduces secrecy and increases trust in council decisions.
  3. Review all projects and committees to ensure work is fiscally responsible and aligned with the LTP.
