Why I'm standing

I believe councils have moved away from their core responsibilities without a clear mandate from the ratepayers. I am part of Standing Together for Waimakariri, a team dedicated to bringing council back to basics, improving efficiencies and ensuring genuine consultation before major decisions are made. I believe our district deserves a fresh culture at the council, one that listens, acts responsibly and focuses on delivering real value for the people who live and work here.

About me

I am Gordon Malcolm, candidate for Waimakariri District Council Oxford/Ohoka Ward Standing Together for Waimakariri. I am often asked why I want to run for council in the Waimakariri District. I am a person who sees a problem and wants to fix it, and in good faith I cannot stand by and watch our district be put into generational debt by a council that does not understand an asset from a liability.

My priorities
  1. Deliver a nil rates increase in 2027/28 to ease costs and prove council can live within its means.
  2. Focus on needs not wants.
  3. Improve public consultation to ensure decisions reflect community priorities.
