Waimate Ward
The Waimate District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Waimate ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Continue and increase education and offer resources to enable reuse and recycling of waste rather than sending all rubbish to the landfill.

    Work as a community to clean up main rivers and creeks to increase water quality for biodiversity and public recreation.

    Work together with community groups and landowners to preserve native forests and biodiversity in the area.

  • Relax health and safety policies by central government to allow better access for hunters to all areas to cull pest species.

    Start waste minimisation with product suppliers who produce the bulk of the waste used to cover and protect their products.

    Work on water management for the rural areas of the district and implement solutions sooner rather than later.
