Waimate Ward
The Waimate District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Waimate ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Build partnerships with all ethnic groups, the marae, cultures and ages to increase participation in council and community organisations.

    Ensure council remains a good employer and that council and staff have a positive attitude.

    Increase public consultation and awareness of issues affecting the community and ensure the council is proactive especially in consultation.

  • Engage more between council employees and councillors on how things can be done better and more efficiently.

    Find new ways to get the people of the Waimate district involved so the future benefits the majority rather than the minorities.

    Promote unity moving forward to a prosperous future, respecting differences without imposing them on others.
