Waimate Ward
The Waimate District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Waimate ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Ensure the council maintains community facilities so they are well maintained and able to be used by the community.

    Maintain giving grants to community groups who provide services to the community, eg Community Link and Centrecare.

    Support festivals and community events as they are important for social cohesion and building up the community.

  • Make public facilities partially self-sustaining by implementing a user-pays system for actual users.

    Monitor and ensure no oversupply of liquor suppliers by limiting store supply only where customers do not sit in and dine.

    Support community-run festivals, markets and other events if they benefit the Waimate district.
