Mayor of Waipā

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waipa District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I care deeply about this district where I was born, and want a council that does better at the basics. I am concerned about our finances, especially affordability, but I can also see opportunities that could unlock an exciting future that need strategic thinking and collaboration involving diverse stakeholders. I have the track record to successfully lead such an approach.

About me

I know how council operates, being a four-term councillor for Pirongia-Kakepuku Ward and have learned that listening is important. I have a business career in finance and leadership roles in community organisations spanning 30 years that equip me well. I have a first-class honours BBS Management degree, and chartered membership of the New Zealand Institute of Directors. As instigator of the successful ecological corridor project between Maungatautari and Pirongia, I have proven collaborative capabilities.

My priorities
  1. Control council spending to keep rates affordable.
  2. Manage growth debt so more finance headroom is created that will allow community projects to proceed.
  3. Increase transparency and open up council business to the public to build back trust.
