Mayor of Waitomo

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waitomo District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I have helped open up our council, improve its governance and financial position in my past five years as mayor. I want to help us get through water reform, which is now ahead of us. I also enjoy working with our various communities. We adopted a mission in 2020 to increase our population after decades of decline and have achieved this. I want to lead council as we deliver further growth.

About me

I bring considerable public and private sector experience and leadership to this role. I have spent six years in central government and have led two other councils. I enjoy working with communities and have a track record in developing community facilities. I understand infrastructure, business and public policy. All this experience will help our council as we move through what will be challenging times in the next three years.

My priorities
  1. Provide leadership for members around the council table that helps make sound decisions.
  2. Provide leadership that keeps council focused on delivering its core business well.
  3. Deliver projects of exceptional value without imposing major costs on ratepayers.
