Mayor of Waitomo

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Waitomo District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I am stepping up to drive the change needed now. I am bringing fresh energy and perspective to get council back on track. I want to return to basics: delivering core services well, reining in spending, keeping it local and adopting one clear mission statement. I believe everything we do must benefit the ratepayers and community of Waitomo as a whole. My focus is putting people first in every decision at the council table and in all the business conducted.

About me

My experience managing hotels and resorts overseas at a high level will be a major asset in this role. I have strong leadership and a hands-on, practical management style, which were key to my success and are exactly what is needed here. The skills I have built throughout my career, particularly in property and asset management, are a huge plus. My practical perspective delivers results efficiently, saving both time and money.

My priorities
  1. Keep it local, prioritising most council spending to stay in the district.
  2. Find cost savings across council to reduce the impact on rates for the community.
  3. Push the priority on core services, focusing on what people see and rely on every day.
