Albert-Eden Local Board

The Albert-Eden Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Partner with Auckland's community and regional sports organisations and facilities to drive sport in Auckland from the grassroots up.

  • Invest in community sports organisations and facilities to support grassroots development initiatives.

    Support community organisations that offer skill-building initiatives for locals.

    Fund arts and cultural experiences to enhance our community's social cohesion and cultural awareness.

  • Prioritise funding of free inclusive events for young adults (eg Big Gay Out).

    Activate local public spaces with arts and culture events, music festivals, sports games, etc.

    Ensure that council-owned facilities are used by and affordably leased to a diverse range of socially inclusive community groups.

  • Partner with, and invest in, Auckland's community and regional sports organisations and facilities.

    Make use of cost-effective court covers and non-slip sports tiles to provide covered playing facilities for multiple sports.

    Use Development Contributions to improve existing green space and provide additional green space to meet demand locally and regionally.

  • Preserve the great green spaces that we already have, such as Chamberlain Park, and ensure that development enhances the areas we value.

    Ensure that we acknowledge what the wider Auckland commmunity values in our area, with great dog exercise spaces, such as Meola Reef.

    Champion local clubs and sport, with so many great sporting clubs and facilities being key to ensuring cohesive community development.

  • Support free hyper-local creative and recreation activities in areas of high social deprivation, eg for children at schools there.

    Increase use of facilities and parks for more diverse needs and prioritise areas of high social deprivation

    Continue supporting successful events for locals to get together and celebrate our diversity.

  • Fund free events for the community eg festivals, cultural events, arts and swimming lessons for children from lower socio-economic homes.

    Council-owned facilities are leased to a wide range of community groups.

    Fund sportsfield upgrades so everyone can get active and play sport instead of struggling for field time or battling closed fields.

  • Continue supporting the Albert-Eden Schools Cultural Festival as a flagship event.

    Continue funding the arts and events broker programme to provide a wide variety of smaller events across the local board area.

    Advocate for continued provision of aquatic facilities in Albert-Eden.
