Auckland Council

North Shore Ward
The Auckland Council makes strategic decisions for Auckland on public transport, urban planning, environmental protection and other big issues. The council provides funding to local boards to provide public services in their areas, and manages council-controlled organisations which provide infrastructure, such as public transport, water and sewerage. The councillors and mayor make up the governing body, which shares governance of Auckland Council with the 21 local boards. The governing body is made up of 20 councillors plus the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in Auckland). Two councillors will be elected from your ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Auckland Council election.

Why I'm standing

Hi, I'm Chris Darby, your forward-looking effective councillor with strong community connections and sound business skills. I get things done. My family arrived on the Shore in 1995, raising our three children here. Living here is remarkable – swimming in bays, bush walking, cycling to my daily ferry commute and enjoying local shopping. Having raised my kids here, I'm passionate about providing all young people quality of life and better opportunities.

About me

As a community leader, I believe in integrity and hard work — something I bring to my senior role as Planning Committee chair. My promise to you is I will continue to bring these qualities, innovation and broad experience to council and work tirelessly for the Shore. With your vote, I will stand up for your issues to shape the very best future for our place.

My priorities
  1. Progress the next harbour crossing, with the priority mode being my flagship rail to the Shore plan.
  2. Review of the Supercity governance model to understand what has worked and what needs attention.
  3. Introduce participatory democracy processes, to build trust in the council decision-making.
