Halswell Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Halswell ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Establish improved inclusive communication on the Christchurch District Plan for better engagement with the community.

  • Work to ensure that new housing developments aren't left without pedestrian access to nearby amenities which is allowed to happen currently.

    Ringfence development contributions to ensure that high-growth areas (eg Halswell) have the infrastructure needed to keep up with growth.

    Encourage housing developments that provide affordable homes reserved for first home buyers.

  • Encourage and coordinate the council and the Ministry of Education to develop a new high school in Halswell.

    Ensure council houses meet the healthy homes standard in 2024.

  • Continue to support Ōtautahi Housing Trust to help those less fortunate into a home and work to reduce the incidences of homelessness.

    Change the district plan to raise the building code to a Homestar six rating as base-level code of compliance.

    Develop a local infrastructure amenity policy to ensure fast-growing wards like Halswell gets needed infrastructure amenities ahead of time.
