Halswell Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Halswell ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Support live music venues and festivals in Christchurch which have struggled through Covid and are significant drivers of economic growth.

    Work to create better spaces for young people, particularly those in the teen years who have very few spaces they are made to feel welcome.

  • Support city and community events, celebrating different cultures and building a vibrant and caring community.

    Protect public facilities, such as libraries, community halls, museums, pools and public facilities.

    Ensure more city/sports events are hosted in the metro stadium.

  • Develop a strategy to provide a clear direction to cement Christchurch as the events, festivals, and sports capital of NZ.

    Strengthen liquor off-license policy to provide better control to help protect local neighbourhoods from alcohol harm.

    Improve the service levels for our parks to ensure they are all well maintained.

  • Support an integrated Red Zone development plan focusing on sustainable regeneration, a tourism hub, entertainment and learning facilities.
