Halswell Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Halswell ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Provide certainty to central city hospitality businesses who have struggled through Covid. Early closing times don't create a vibrant city.

    Work closely with organisations like Connected, Canterbury Employers Chambers of Commerce and NZ Trade and Enterprise to create more job opportunities.

    Reconnect with international markets to encourage international students and tourists back to the city.

  • Work with local businesses to ensure the city infrastructure is actively supporting business growth and employment.

    Develop, support, and encourage more local and city street activation by reducing bureaucracy and red tape.

    Actively target and support new businesses and events to the city through ChristchurchNZ's economic arm.
