Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

I do not support the government's Three Waters proposal but support investment in Three Waters infrastructure – removal of chlorine from our water.
Work with government, manufacturers, and other consumer providers to establish a zero waste system.
Raise levels of service with street cleaning and weed control on our roads and footpaths and develop policy to allow creative use of berms.
Engage effectively with the central government towards a more integrated approach of the Three Waters reforms to ensure best outcomes for all.
Continue working to remove chlorine from our water supply.
Work to expand recycling in Christchurch and increasing the amount of household items that can be recycled.
Ensure our street sweeping teams are well established and responding to extreme weather forecasts/expected flooding events.
Support clean and safe drinking water for everyone.
Support a container return scheme that incentivises people to return their empty beverage containers for recycling.
