Harewood Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Harewood ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Protect fertile soils by increasing building density in areas well serviced by public transport, healthcare, schools, and green spaces.

    Ensure that denser housing does not adversely affect surrounding properties by requiring tight controls on recession planes.

  • Lobby for team to be set up to look at ground reports, plus black map, if areas are suitable, eg will it require new sewage plant? Cost.

    Lobby for better engagement with community. You have a ageing population and many cultures. Regular meet a councillor at the library.

    Lobby to keep houses warm. This will require funding and an education program. Plus look at outside weather covers to keep washing outside.
