Harewood Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). One councillor will be elected from the Harewood ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Rapidly roll-out the remaining Major Cycle Routes and begin connecting these routes together to create a network for safe cycling.

    Increase bus reliability and travel times by creating more bus lanes and turning lights at intersections.

    Introduce slow speed neighbourhoods throughout the whole city, including widening footpaths and planting trees to encourage slower speeds.

  • Relook at plan for when arena is built to promote tourism and get people from one side of town to another plus a new rail station near arena.

    Establish a climate change emergency management training centre in New Brighton for youth and late bloomers.

    Make airport more user friendly for local people and workers.
