Devonport-Takapuna Local Board

The Devonport-Takapuna Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

  • Commit to advocating for data collection around how different genders are affected by climate change in our local area.

    Commit to improving safety and lighting at bus stops and surrounding streets to encourage more public transport use.

    Commit to planting more trees in the Lyford Reserve.

  • Advocate for safe, separated cycle routes along our rapid transit network and near local schools.

    Work with community partners to share locally produced emergency plans that support resilient communities.

    Partner with Auckland Transport to improve the Bayswater ferry service, ensuring it's a frequent, affordable and electrified harbour crossing.

  • Increase diverse transport options in the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board (DLTB). Cars even when electric only contribute to congestion. Let's improve alternative transport!

    Stop the senseless removal of native trees. Erosion, heat waves and lack of biodiversity is directly linked to tree removal.

    Destroy any barriers preventing people from being the best kaitiaki (guardian) they can be. Improve public/alternative transport.

  • Question the 'climate change' ideology/science from varied 'experts'.

    Adopt consistent community-wide approach to environmental concerns.

    Stop blindly following central government's suggestions.

  • Promote and make more efficient all transport modes, including cars, public transport, cycling, shared rides and walking.

    Prepare and educate our local community for civil defence emergencies and extreme weather events.

    Encourage sustainable business and consumer practices, reduce single use packaging, reduce product transport distances and encourage local.

  • Develop for each local area emergency, resilience and disaster plans for all Devonport Takapūna communities.

    Seek to retain the funding for the Lake Road improvement project to enable a T2 lane. This will carry more people on public transport.

    Support new ferries which reduce emissions and have better access for pedestrians and cyclists.
