Devonport-Takapuna Local Board

The Devonport-Takapuna Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Push strongly for a fully blown Waitematā Harbour Crossing to include full vehicle lanes for cars and trucks.

    Continue to improve public transport to ensure that there is adequate capacity in our public transport for the future.

    Lobby for funding to improve roads. Remove cycle lane barriers and push for better road management, including stop the removal of parking.

  • Push strongly for a fully blown Waitematā Harbour Crossing to include full vehicle lanes for cars and trucks.

    Continue to improve public transport to ensure that there is adequate capacity in our public transport for the future.

    Lobby for more funding to improve roads such as Lake Rd, Takapūna to Devonport. Our current councillors have been woeful in getting funding.

  • Support upgrades to all transport choices, acknowledging that some people have to drive. Enhance public transport routes and facilities.

    Enhance off-road cycling routes, school connections and walking paths. Make better use of berm space for cycling/walking routes.

    Create shared lanes for T2, cycling and buses to use. Investigate dynamic lanes in high demand single direction times.

  • Work with Auckland Transport to get safe crossings from community centres.

  • Ensure council makes increasing spending on public transport a priority. Trips should be affordable and reliable.

    Support shared bikes, e-scooters and cycling in central areas as a measure to reduce carbon emissions.

    Support 30km speed safety around town centres, to improve safety and enhance the concept of shared space.

  • Partner with Auckland Transport to deliver the Lake Road improvement plan.

    Support safe walking and cycling routes to schools to reduce short trips being taken by private vehicle.

    Support free fares for public transport to encourage take up, faster trip times, and a healthier environment.

  • Enhance public transport availability, options and also accessibility. Population is growing (bigger and older) and we need to future proof!

    Protect people choosing to walk and cycle in the DTLB. There are too many accidents and it turns people off of trying alternative transport.
