Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Aim to reduce Auckland-wide reduction of household waste and encourage recycling of waste materials.

Continue healthy waters programme to separate waste and stormwater. The new housing intensification zoning will add difficulties.

Improve street cleaning to ensure that leaves and debris do not add to street flooding.

  • Educate people on ethical ways to minimise waste. Landfills will only continue to be filled while we're still creating waste.

Protect water. It's been ignored for too long that we don't respect it, care for it or even acknowledge all it does for us. Whakahokia.

Support recycling centres in the community to better serve our needs. Save things from going into landfill instead they can live on!

  • Decline to accept the kitchen waste targeted rate. Disappointed that councillors Darby and Hills supported this rate.

Poor showing by Animal Control in relation to dog management. I will certainly improve this low performance.

More support is needed in the area of helping Milford Marina's management to fund the removal of silt from the marina.

  • Advocate for drinking taps at each playground.

Cleanup our beaches and waterways by doing more investigation into the watewater and stormwater network, fixing issues fast.

Reduce dog licensing costs, increase fines for not picking up your dogs poop, dog muzzles for dangerous breeds, more dog control officers.

Encourage community engagement with keeping community clean.

Communicate and incentivise clean and safe communities.
