Mayor of Far North District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Far North District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I have over 20 years experience in local government. The Far North can punch above its weight. We need to stop playing the victim and put our best foot forward if we want to excel. That means collectively working on what we need, what we want, how to get there in a united way and then march forth. I believe I can build a frame work to deliver that

About me

I have been elected since 1996, holding every role other than mayor. I held a position on the Trust of Top Energy for two decades during which time we developed the Ngawha Geothermal Field. I have been the chairperson of the business association, soccer coach (not a great one but I gave it my best) I have been a volunteer driver for Saint Johns. I have been a director for Consumer New Zealand.

My priorities
  1. Transport. In every way shape and form. We need to build connections and resilience for our people.
  2. Three water compliance. For too long this has fallen into the too hard too expensive basket.
  3. Getting elected members out of the office into the field to understand what frustrates the customer.
