Mayor of Far North District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Far North District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

My desire is to help create prosperous, vibrant, empowered communities and shape local government at a time when local government is facing the biggest legislative changes since the amalgamations of 1989. Our people are hurting and facing increasing deprivation in a world that is facing major challenges. Effectively local government and local people collectively working together is essential to meet these challenges if we are to thrive.

About me

I'm born in the north, have served nine years as a senior councillor, have an extensive background in science and technology. I have a heart for people and have been actively involved in business, training, and charitable projects in the Far North; also 30 years plus experience in a large corporate. I am a proven strategic and innovative thinker, and have the motivation, skills and time to help enhance local government that works for communities.

My priorities
  1. Self-governing thriving communities. This is key to creating sustainable and resilient communities.
  2. Improved Governance and Planning. Good governance reduces risk and costs, and enhances performance.
  3. Revitalise local government, support community boards and extend their delegations.
