Gisborne District Council

Tairāwhiti Māori Ward
The Gisborne District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Tairāwhiti Māori ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Gisborne District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I am running for council because I believe in representation and diversity. The Māori wards give us an opportunity to sit at the decision-making table and advocate for change while actively trying to close the gap of inequities, particularly for whānau Māori.

About me

I am an enthusiastic, capable, and energetic person. I have had a varied career in the public service, communications and marketing, project management and policy development. I am passionate, well spoken and believe that a good counsillor listens more than she talks.

My priorities
  1. Ensuring that council work together, both Māori ward and general.
  2. That council participates heavily in the wider conversations about housing solutions.
  3. That we prepare our communities for civil emergencies and the impacts of climate change.
