Mayor of Hamilton

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Hamilton City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm just an ordinary Hamiltonian. I don't have connections to political parties, big business, property developers or lobby groups. I do have connections to ordinary Hamiltonians, many of whom are struggling. I'm connected to both workers and unemployed people, families, pensioners and youth that are doing it tough, to homeowners that are tired of ever-increasing rates bills and renters struggling with housing insecurity. I want to make sure these people are represented.

About me

I am a qualified journalist. Journalists can ask the hard questions, they can talk and relate to all sorts of people, and they can smell BS a mile away. I'm also a mum. Mums manage budgets and know the difference between a necessity and a nice to have (and can also smell BS a mile away).

My priorities
  1. People – ensure council decisions make Hamiltonians' lives better and easier now and into the future.
  2. Debt and spending – prioritise essential services and infrastructure over gold-standard vanity projects.
  3. Representation – increase opportunities for Hamiltonians to have a REAL say in city decisions.
