Howick Local Board

The Howick Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of nine members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Three members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Oppose Auckland Council selling our parks and reserves.

  • Lobby for a women's recreational facility to promote women's participation in physical activity in the constituency. (Desperate need of it.)

    Promote community events and festivals by reducing/subsidising council venue hiring rates.

    Promote to celebrate multi-ethnic and religious events in the area like Eid al-Fitr, Diwali, Christmas etc to develop interfaith harmony.

  • Facilitate more sporting events within the community. Including council ran cups for different sports and age groups.

    Limit new liquor licenses being issued in our community to minimise the availability of alcohol to youths and young adults.

    Improve funding to council-run gyms for equipment improvements and increased spa/pool capabilities.
