Howick Local Board

Pakuranga Subdivision
The Howick Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of nine members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Three members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

    Promote free rides for all commuters using public transport.

  • Broadly support the central government in its reform of water systems, whatever that may look like. Primarily drinking water infrastructure.

    Reduced cost for dog registration for elderly dogs and puppies. Registration costs for "outdoor" cats and tighter restrictions on stray dogs.

    Increase the size of rubbish bins for some main roads to allow fortnightly collection and reduce traffic disruption on critical roads.

  • Work with council to build sustainable street cleaning mechanism.

    Establish linkage with local community leaders to gets updates on issues.
