Howick Local Board

The Howick Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of nine members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Three members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Tying infrastructure spending on roads and public transport to population growth so higher density housing doesn't cause further congestion.

    Assist transportation troubles with improved ferry routes.

    Increase bus frequency in peak times and increase park and ride and bike storage capability at these transport hubs.

  • Work with council to have weather-friendly and secure bus stops (many do not have seating/shelters) and improve bus frequency.

    Promote urban cycling and walking culture along with recreational. Encourage board members to lead as example, improve environment with Auckland Transport.
