Mayor of Invercargill

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Invercargill City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

The mayoral leadership during the past three years was lacking, and given the change facing local government at present we need to be focussed and not distracted by personal issues. Meetings need to be run in a manner that ensures all councillors are engaged. That is a skill set I've demonstrated with meetings I've chaired over the past two years where we've had some of the most challenging discussions during my 21 years on council.

About me

I have a profile that makes me approachable by people from all walks of life, and networks regionally and nationally that will ensure Invercargill continues to be recognised.

My priorities
  1. Council meetings are well run, engaged, and work towards rebuilding the trust of our residents.
  2. Current projects continue swiftly without costs spiralling too far from original projections
  3. Have relationships ensuring a smooth transition with changes to core business from central government.
