Mayor of Invercargill

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Invercargill City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Invercargill is on the cusp of seizing some incredible opportunities to secure a better future for all. This election is critical to ensure the city is represented by an experienced mayor with the knowledge, relationships, and skill set to bring these opportunities to fruition. Our most valuable asset is our people and we should empower our people to enhance positive aspects of our city so we restore trust and inspire change.

About me

I have demonstrated integrity and complete transparency within our community for years across multiple sectors, and I am very proud of where I was born and raised. I was the previous deputy mayor and bring fifteen years of local and central government experience to this role. I want our people and their children to be proud to be from Invercargill and have all the opportunities to thrive so they choose to build their lives here.

My priorities
  1. Ensure Invercargill is on a safe financial footing.
  2. Balancing the need to bring innovation and growth to our great city.
  3. Create a culture within the council that debates the issues, not personalities, and then delivers.
