Mayor of Invercargill

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Invercargill City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe we need a strong leader for our mayor with a strong vision for Invercargill, willing to work together with councillors to get results for ratepayers. With the strength of a unified voice, we as the representatives can set the council's agenda and you can hold us to account, because ultimately our council needs to be accountable to the ratepayers. I will take all my experience and ensure our local businesses, and economy prosper.

About me

I am a former list member of Parliament based in Invercargill and actively advocated for constituents of the Invercargill public throughout my role prior to and during Parliament. The experience of working in government has provided multilevel essential skills and abilities to become the mayor of Invercargill. I have a strong business and governance background. I bring years of experience in roles from chair to directorships. I mentor for Business NZ and am a Rotarian.

My priorities
  1. Ratepayer money must be scrutinised for projects and events that our city needs, not spent on wants.
  2. Introduce a future plan for innovative education, science and technology complex for our youth.
  3. Increase and develop sustainable, accessible, functional housing to our elders, disabled, low incomes.
