Mayor of Invercargill

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Invercargill City Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I am running because I love this city and believe I have the vision and leadership to change the city for the better. I was approached by a number of mayors from other cities who encouraged me to stand. People also were telling me that they weren't going to vote as they didn't like any of the candidates. Once I made the decision, I never had any doubt that it was the right one.

About me

I will be a fantastic elected representative because I have such love and passion for the south. I have spent years studying and understanding the places history, and there was never any doubt that this is where I would raise a family. Vanessa and myself and the children are very involved in the Bluff Primary school, the bluff community, and sports clubs.

My priorities
  1. Making Invercargill the Welcome City. That means making welcoming people our superpower.
  2. Getting NZ's best museum built in Queens Park.
  3. Building NZ's most exciting adventure playground in Queens Park, alongside the museum.
