Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Make sure our local transport system is fit for purpose as we move forward with our growing community.

Road safety and road quality has some major issues at the moment. The state of our current roads would be where to start.

  • Look into continuing the development of our nature trails and walks for all of our whānau to enjoy.

Support active transport modes and make sure we have safe and easily accessible travel corridors.

Make sure we have a good enough infrastructure for future generations to enjoy.

  • Look at resources available to tackle the backlog of maintenance work on our roads from the last few years.
